Shimmy Shimmy Ya: Portland #1

We've arrived in one of the most anticipated cities of the trip, Portland. I'm in love with this place.

As loyal readers know, elk are indeed made in Oregon.

Our hotel is off the chain. Everything is white and made of plastic. Here are some features of the hotel: indie rock club, bar, tattoo shop, a porn shop, a restaurant, and, although we haven't seen it, a rock climbing gym. I'm a little confused as to how we got here, but the room is definitely the nicest thus far on the trip.

I forgot to mention that the doors are also chalkboards. Here, we made you a visual aid.

Our first stop was Powell's. If you squint and look to the left, you will see Mike.

We liked Powell's even before we walked in the door-- they had one of Mike's books in the window.

Another reason to like Powell's-- they have good taste.

Another person with good taste is Anthony Bourdain. He sent us to Voodoo Donut. Of course, he didn't tell us to go twice. We figured that out on our own. Above, this little piggy was eating a maple bar. It also comes with strips of bacon. I thought my foray into the dark side of pork in Napa was enough for the month.

The girl behind us in line was much, much smarter than us. She asked meekly if there were any day-olds, and was presented with a bucket three times as big as Mike's head. She forked over a whopping five dollars for the donuts and the bucket, and went on her merry way.

Mike got an Old Dirty Bastard: chocolate frosted with oreos and peanut butter.

Kristina found us.

She took this nice picture with her totally awesome 1970s Polaroid. She's so nice that she let us keep it.

Michael, behind Michael's. I am proud to say that we did not eat there. You see, we have some self-restraint, after all.

Anthony Bourdain also sent us to Apizza Scholls. During the half-hour wait for a table, we met Mike and Patty Greenfield, longtime Portland residents. Their thirty-year-old son had a iPhone, too. Mike and Patty referred to Mr. Bourdain as 'Tony.' They were our people.

The pizza did not disappoint.

Portland at night, mid-bridge.

Tonight we're heading to the Tegan and Sara show, thanks to Mr. Rodrigo Perez, who pulled some strings and got us on the list. It just so happens that the concert is directly across the street from one of the Powell's outposts. Do you know what happens tonight at 12:01am? We do.

much love
E + M

Do you get a knife and fork and 2 new friends to help get through the ODB donut? What exactly were the dimensions of the day-old-donut person?
For Muggles, you are pretty cool!

Please save the picture of the Polaroid picture; I may ask to use it as album graphics.
